Milesight WS501 / WS502: smart LoRaWAN® wall switches for instant lighting control and energy insight

If you want reliable, mains-rated switching you can control locally or from your platform, the Milesight WS50x series (WS501 1-gang, WS502 2-gang) drops straight into standard wall boxes and adds LoRaWAN® + Milesight D2D for ultra-low-latency scenes. It also measures voltage, current, power, power factor and kWh, with over-current protection — ideal for offices, schools, museums, hotels and public buildings.

Why engineers & FM teams choose WS501 / WS502

  • Direct retrofit: 86 mm (EU) and 120 type (US) faceplates; choose WS501 (1-gang) or WS502 (2-gang). Neutral required (3-wire).

  • Real energy data: reads VAC, mA, W, PF and kWh for each gang; typical measurement accuracy ±3% (max ±5%).

  • Built-in safety: high-reliability relay, over-current protection, SPST terminals, and ice-blue indicator for dark areas.

  • Instant scenes: Milesight D2D peer-to-peer control (no gateway hop) + multicast to control groups at once.

  • Long-range, responsive control: LoRaWAN® Class C (OTAA/ABP), up to 15 km line-of-sight radio. NFC for one-touch setup.

  • Features: delay switch, switch-lock, over-current protection, multicast, NFC config (app or downlink)

  • Enclosure: IP20, PC (UL94-V0); –20…+60 °C operating range

  • Models: WS501 (1-gang), WS502 (2-gang), 86 mm (EU) / 120 type (US) options
All per the Milesight WS50x datasheet.

Best-fit UK applications (with quick wins)

Smart offices & schools — Timetabled or sensor-driven lighting with D2D for instant response; group classrooms with multicast for end-of-day shutoff. Pair with WS202 PIR & Light to switch only when dark and occupied.
Museums & galleries — Protect exhibits and save energy: low-glare indicator, scheduled scenes, and kWh logging for reporting.
Hotels & public buildings — Corridor and back-of-house control; lock switches in staff-only areas; push data to your BMS via LoRaWAN®.

Quick deployment checklist

  1. Choose the right faceplate: 86 mm (EU) or 120 type (US); pick WS501 for 1-gang, WS502 for 2-gang.

  2. Confirm wiring: 3-wire (neutral) is required. Use a qualified electrician for installation.

  3. Check load type: stay within 10 A resistive / 5 A inductive per gang and 1000 W per gang

  4. Commission fast: tap with NFC (Milesight ToolBox), enable Class C, set over-current and switch-lock as needed.

  5. Scale elegantly: use multicast for floors/blocks and D2D for zero-lag scenes.

FAQs

WS501 vs WS502?
WS501 is 1-gang; WS502 is 2-gang. Both are 86 mm EU size; WS501 also has a 120-type US variant.

Is it a dimmer?
No — it’s a switch (SPST) with on/off control and energy measurement. Use relay-based scenes or pair with compatible dimming hardware upstream.

Does it need a neutral?
Yes. It’s a 3-wire device (live, neutral, load).
